Focusing On What You Want

Some lawyers take an approach to divorce law that focuses on getting as much out of the other party as possible; others focus on getting things settled quickly and easily without worrying about their client’s best interest.

At Kenney & Kenney, Attorneys at Law, we take a different approach. As your attorneys, doing things your way is our main concern. We will advise you carefully from the start so that you are making informed decisions, but we won’t make these decisions for you. You are the one in the driver’s seat, and we will carry out your decisions as efficiently as possible. Our Medway, Holliston, Franklin, Medway and surrounding Massachusetts communities, clients appreciate that about us.

Issues To Address In A Divorce

In a divorce, there are a few common issues that come up. Since this firm’s founding in 1955, we have handled cases involving:

  • Distribution of property: Massachusetts is an equitable distribution state, meaning the court looks at fairness and reasonableness as the standard for dividing property. Our lawyers have more than 30 years experience with distribution of property arguments.
  • Financial support issues: Almost every divorce involves consideration of support issues, including child support, alimony and the temporary support given during the time that the divorce trial is proceeding.
  • Parenting plans: Parenting plans are the plans that the court must approve regarding child custody and visitation, grandparent visitation and control over the child’s major decisions.
  • Modifications: When time goes by and there has been a substantial change in one of the party’s circumstances, we can help you petition the court for a modification of the original divorce decree.
  • Crossover issues: We have the experience to help you when your divorce touches into other legal practice areas like real estate, business law and estate planning.

Generally, we start by working with the other party to reach an arrangement both parties can agree to. If that doesn’t work, we can fight aggressively for your rights in the courtroom where a judge decides the contested issues.

Another option is mediation, an alternative dispute resolution method in which a mediator works as a go-between, helping the parties come to a resolution on their own without having to go through a lengthy, expensive court battle. We can represent you in mediation.
